Irene's grandson, Paul is kidnapped, so Selina and Joey Rainbow, both visit Saul's commune to find out the truth. Selina begins studying nursing at University and is placed at Northern Districts' hospital. Selina is shocked to discovers that the hospital's computer repairman is Steven. He makes it clear he still loves Selina but she is still with Jesse. However, Selina cannot deny her feelings for Steven and they end up back together before she agrees to marry him.

She and her parents spent their time arguing rather than discussing their problems, which led to Selina going off the rails. Brett and Martha died in the blaze and Steven, with no available extended family, was placed into a temporary care home until Tom and Pippa Fletcher fostered him. Just as everyone trusts him again, he drunkenly confesses to setting the fire that killed Phillip, enraged Steven tries to attack him before he is charged with murder. While sharing a kiss at the dance, they accidentally end up tipping paint over principal Donald Fisher and his date Irene Roberts. Selina offers to sleep with Jack before she leaves, but he tells her she does not have to. Several weeks later, Selina runs away and asks Irene to take her in. Irene cannot officially foster her but the Department of Child Care Services agree she can stay with Irene. Selina discovers that Jack is already dating another girl, Sonia Johnson and punches him. Selina and Jack later resume their relationship but Jack continues to see Sonia and also begins dating Frankie Brooks.
Irene's son Damian arrives for Shane Parrish and Angel Brooks' wedding and Selina is attracted to him. Deckert auditioned for Home and Away three times in Melbourne. Following her third audition, she was asked to fly to Sydney for a screen test and was told she had the part of Selina. She was asked to return the following day to begin filming and Deckert had to leave her school in order to join the show.

She debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 5 May 1994. Deckert was given the role of Selina after her third audition for the show. In 1996, Deckert fell ill and Louise Crawford played Selina in her absence. In 1997, Deckert decided to leave the serial, however briefly returned in 1998. Her return was filmed in Ironbridge, Shropshire, as part of the serial's first ever overseas location filming. Selina's last appearance to date was on 30 March 1998, where she agreed to marry Steven.
Selina then befriends her classmate Jeremy Riggs, until she discovered he had been her stalker. Not long after, Irene also finds out about Selina and Steven and makes a complaint. After an investigation Steven is forced to resign and leaves the area. Selina begins dating former criminal Jesse McGregor and he agrees to change his ways. When Jesse kisses Chloe Richards, she refuses to forgive them at first but later resumes her relationship with Jesse and friendship with Chloe. Irene, Shannon and Alex Bennett all try to prevent her from being brainwashed by Saul.
Dodge becomes Tom and Pippa's latest foster child, he strikes up a friendship with Steven and winds him up on multiple occasions about not being macho. Dodge enjoys using Steven to do his essays and he later fools Steven into turning on his former geeky friends over a money dispute. Dodge had in fact, being bullying one of them, when they all attack him, Steven decides to attempt to attack the lads.
Victoria Ross of Inside Soap opined that Selina had a "passion for dodgy fashion" and was not likely to blend into the background. Deckert said her character was not supposed to be a "real grunge chick" and explained that Selina was going to be a clichéd bimbo. The actress introduced the wardrobe department to biker boots and Selina became a real tomboy.
Selina is stalked and has her underwear and other items stolen, Selina believes Curtis is responsible. Curtis had caught the real stalker and kept his identity a secret. They acknowledge they have feelings for each other but realise their romance is forbidden whilst she is at school.
Sandra later leaves the area to stay with a foster family in the city. Teacher Jeff Samuels whose training regimes do not sit well with Steven, the Fletchers or many other people in Summer Bay. Steven is overjoyed when his uncle Philip Matheson , his only living relative arrives in Summer Bay. Philip is later killed in an arson attack on the general store at the hands of Brian "Dodge" Forbes , who has a grudge against the owner Celia Stewart . Steven is devastated and begins having nightmares and flashbacks to his parents' deaths in the fire.
Dodge is released from prison and returns to Summer Bay, wanting revenge on Steven. Dodge hides jelly beans in Steven's house and black mails him by stating he will go to the police and tell them he has illegal drugs in his property. Scared Steven becomes extremely affected by his presence, but is happy to find out they're not drugs. Steven and Kelly Watson have an affair behind Travis Nash's back, although Kelly later decides it isn't a good idea and ends things. Whilst out on a cruise, Dodge jumps overboard and is presumed dead. The police start a murder investigation with Steven as their prime suspect.
